Week 8
Hi friends, a shorter, non-list one this week, mostly because my head feels more messy than the strict organization a list would require. Good news: by Friday, I stopped crying three times a day! I have stopped crying (for now!) Unfortunately, it did help to vent feelings through writing & cringe online sharing; fortunately, it does help to be open with your loved ones, always, because they can do things like send you flowers and care packages in the mail and bring you Taschen erotic art books and remind you that everything will be okay. I did nothing but lay wrapped in a blanket like a burrito on the couch to watch Kdramas some nights this week, which is something I haven’t let myself do in a long time despite the advice of my friend D, who claimed that it would help refresh me, and he was right—D’s birthday was this week so we went to karaoke, which I always love, because yelling a ballad into a microphone and dancing like an idiot in a dark room with friends is always cathartic, as is dancing at queer techno til 5am, where my friend S looked over at me in the middle of some gritty pounding beat to yell “BETTER THAN THERAPY” — therapy also feels like recreating Kuala Lumpur’s Lai Foong Lala Noodles for a dear friend who craves their gingery broth too; as does going to Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty at Lincoln Center with a dear friend for a transportive afternoon; as does crying(!) over chosen family and learning how to love and be loved despite lone wolf outcast qualities at Soho Rep’s Wolf Play, watching and crying over it for the second time with dear friends who love Hansol Jung’s playwriting too. It’s nice to have people where making an effort to act alive doesn’t have to feel like an effort; it’s nice to have friends on Find My Friends who will text a photo of your respective location circles on top of each other’s and say beautiful. How beautiful! See you next week.
